Zakharova Voices Concern Over Japan’s Alleged Use of Correspondents in Russia

Russia

Moscow, October 14, 2026 – The Europe Today: Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has accused Japan of relying on journalists working in Russia to collect information allegedly aimed at undermining the country’s national security.

“Tokyo’s attempts to use its correspondents who are in Russia and have the status of foreign journalists to gather information with the aim of undermining the security of our state are regrettable,” Zakharova said in a statement published on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website.

She added that the incident was not an isolated case, indicating Moscow’s concerns over what it described as attempts to obtain information that could threaten Russia’s security.

The remarks highlight continuing tensions between Moscow and Tokyo over security-related issues and the activities of foreign media representatives in Russia.
