Ulaanbaatar, March 08, 2024, The Europe Today: The Chinese Embassy in Mongolia commemorated International Women’s Day on Wednesday with a reception attended by representatives from the Mongolian government, political parties, media, social groups, and foreign embassies, including staff from Chinese-funded institutions in Mongolia.
Chinese Ambassador to Mongolia, Shen Minjuan, emphasized the integral role of women in every aspect of society, stating, “Women hold up half the sky in every one of our families and in every sphere of society, especially in Mongolia.” Ambassador Shen expressed her hopes for women’s well-being and happiness in the auspicious Year of the Dragon, anticipating further development in bilateral relations.
In a demonstration of solidarity, the Chinese ambassador handed over an emergency assistance fund of 100,000 yuan (approximately 14,000 U.S. dollars) donated by the Beijing Red Cross Society to the Mongolian Red Cross Society. The donation aims to support efforts in combating the extreme wintry weather, known as “dzud,” which has led to the loss of over 3 million head of livestock across Mongolia.
“Dzud,” a term in Mongolian, describes a harsh winter characterized by severe cold, leading to the death of a significant number of livestock due to frozen ground or heavy snowfall. The emergency assistance underscores the collaborative efforts between China and Mongolia in addressing the challenges posed by natural disasters and enhancing mutual support.
As the International Women’s Day reception unfolded, it served as a platform to celebrate the achievements of women and strengthen the ties between the two nations. The occasion exemplified the commitment of both countries to not only acknowledging the vital contributions of women but also extending support during challenging times, fostering goodwill and cooperation.
