Hanoi, July 30, 2024, The Europe Today: Vietnam secured second place at the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), held from July 21-30 in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Education and Training announced.
All four Vietnamese students participating in the competition won medals, with three earning gold and one securing silver.
This year’s Olympiad saw the participation of 327 contestants from 89 countries and territories, competing in both theoretical and practical exams, each lasting five hours. The exams featured several new and relevant aspects, covering applications of chemistry in industry, environmental pollution control, and advanced materials. These elements required students to demonstrate comprehensive thinking and precise operational skills.
China topped the overall medal standings, while Vietnam tied for second place with the United States.
From 2020 to 2024, the Vietnamese team has consistently excelled, earning a total of 20 medals from 20 participants, including 17 gold and three silver, thereby maintaining a position among the top three countries in the competition.
The Vietnamese students’ remarkable performance at the IChO highlights the country’s commitment to academic excellence and its strong presence on the international stage in the field of chemistry.
