London, August 12, 2024, The Europe Today: A shop security guard has been hailed as a hero after he intervened to save an 11-year-old girl during a knife attack in London’s Leicester Square. The incident, which occurred in one of the capital’s busiest tourist areas, also left the girl’s 34-year-old mother injured.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a 32-year-old man had been arrested and taken into custody following the attack. In a statement, the police indicated that they are “not looking for anyone else” in connection with the incident and do not believe the victims knew their attacker. Authorities also emphasized that there is no indication the stabbing was terror-related.
Abdullah, a 29-year-old security guard working at TWG Tea in Leicester Square, recounted how he courageously intervened to stop the attacker. With the assistance of his colleagues, Abdullah administered first aid to the injured child, helping to stabilize her until emergency services arrived.
The girl was taken to the hospital for treatment of “serious” but not life-threatening injuries, according to the Met Police. Her mother sustained less severe wounds, described as “more minor” by authorities.
Police officers remain on the scene as investigations continue. The area, a popular destination for tourists, was cordoned off as authorities conducted their inquiries.
The swift actions of Abdullah and his colleagues have been widely praised, with many recognizing their bravery in a situation that could have had even more tragic consequences.
