UK Inflation Rises to 2.9% in July, Highest Since March

London, August 19, 2026 — The Europe Today: UK inflation rose to its highest level since March in July, driven primarily by higher energy prices, according to official figures released on Wednesday.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said consumer price index (CPI) inflation increased to 2.9 percent in July, up from a 15-month low of 2.6 percent recorded in June.

The rise came after Ofgem increased its energy price cap by 13 percent last month, resulting in an average annual increase of £221 ($300) in household gas and electricity bills, bringing the yearly average to £1,862.

The latest figures indicate renewed inflationary pressures in the UK economy, with higher household energy costs contributing significantly to the increase in consumer prices.
