Cyberattack Exposes Data of 8.7 Million Customers at Three UK Airports

Cyberattack

London, August 27, 2026 – The Europe Today: A cyberattack targeting three major UK airports has resulted in unauthorized access to the personal data of approximately 8.7 million customers, Manchester Airports Group (MAG) said on Thursday.

The incident affected Manchester Airport, London Stansted Airport and East Midlands Airport, all operated by MAG. The compromised information was linked to car park, lounge and Fast Track bookings, as well as in-airport Wi-Fi registrations.

According to MAG, the accessed data included customers’ email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registration numbers and postcodes. The company emphasized that neither MAG nor the affected system stored customers’ bank or payment information, and therefore financial details were not compromised.

MAG said it immediately contained the risk after identifying the incident and has been working with specialist cybersecurity advisers and relevant authorities to protect customers and its systems.

The company also confirmed that the cyber incident had no impact on airport operations, with passenger safety, aviation security and customer parking services remaining unaffected.

The affected airports have urged customers to remain vigilant against suspicious emails, phone calls and text messages that may attempt to exploit the compromised information. London Stansted Airport specifically warned customers not to provide payment or banking information in response to unexpected communications.

MAG apologized for any concern or inconvenience caused by the incident and reiterated its commitment to protecting customer information.

The breach comes amid heightened concern over cybersecurity threats targeting critical infrastructure and major UK companies, highlighting the growing challenges faced by organizations in protecting large volumes of customer data.
