Jakarta, October 19, 2024 — The Europe Today: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has arrived in Jakarta to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prabowo Subianto as Indonesia’s new president.
Anwar’s special aircraft landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport at 6:00 PM local time (7:00 PM in Malaysia) on Saturday. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by the Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia, Datuk Syed Md Hasrin Tengku Hussin, along with Indonesian Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani.
“This is a significant moment for both our countries. Beyond honouring the invitation from the Indonesian government, the Prime Minister’s working visit will reinforce bilateral ties and bolster ASEAN cooperation, which Malaysia is set to chair next year,” said Ambassador Syed Md Hasrin.
The Prime Minister received a red carpet welcome, including a guard of honour mounted by the Indonesian Armed Forces, as the national anthems of both nations were played.
Anwar is set to join 20 foreign heads of state and other representatives at the inauguration ceremony, which will take place at the People’s Consultative Assembly building on Sunday, October 20, starting at 10:00 AM local time.
World leaders began arriving on Friday for the inauguration, during which Prabowo Subianto will be officially appointed as Indonesia’s eighth president. He, along with vice president-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, will succeed Joko Widodo and Ma’ruf Amin following their victory in the 2024 presidential election.
