President Mirziyoyev Chairs Meeting on Boosting Socio-Economic Development in Khorezm Region

Tashkent, November 23, 2024 – The Europe Today:  President Shavkat Mirziyoyev presided over a high-level meeting focused on additional measures to accelerate the socio-economic development of the Khorezm region. The meeting highlighted recent achievements and outlined ambitious plans to attract substantial investments, create jobs, and enhance the quality of life for residents.

Over recent years, Khorezm has witnessed significant progress in entrepreneurship, agro-industry, and the service sector. The President’s earlier visit to the region this year and the directives issued during that trip have provided a critical boost to local development initiatives.

Investment and Job Creation
Plans to attract $1.5 billion in investment to Khorezm in 2025 were unveiled, aiming to establish numerous enterprises and generate jobs. A notable project includes the expansion of the industrial zone in the Kushkupyr district by 175 hectares, which is expected to host projects worth $1 billion and create 2,000 jobs in sectors such as electrical engineering, chemicals, mechanical engineering, and pharmaceuticals.

Reducing the protection zone of the Shavat Canal from 50 to 25 meters is projected to unlock $30 million in investments, with services worth 1 trillion UZS to be provided and 2,500 new jobs created. Similarly, development opportunities around the Gazavat and Polvon canals could lead to projects worth $50 million.

Agriculture and Water Management
Unrealized potential in agriculture and water management was emphasized. The Kushkupyr district holds favorable conditions for expanding poultry farming, while Bagat district offers significant opportunities in fish farming. Additionally, improvements to the water supply in Yangiariq are expected to create 1,200 jobs in melon and rice cultivation, as well as fish breeding.

Social Infrastructure Development
The meeting also addressed pressing social needs, particularly in education and healthcare. Plans include repairing 44 schools and kindergartens, constructing new educational institutions through public-private partnerships, and establishing multidisciplinary medical centers in Urgench, Bagat, Shavat, and Yangibazar districts.

Presidential Directives
President Mirziyoyev instructed officials to consolidate these proposals into a draft resolution. Stressing the importance of turning potential into tangible results, he called for the creation of jobs, the growth of incomes, and the sustained prosperity of the region.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging Khorezm’s vast economic and social potential to improve the quality of life for its residents.
