Jakarta, December 3, 2024 – The Europe Today: The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is actively supervising the implementation of Microsoft’s US$1.7 billion investment in Indonesia, as part of the tech giant’s long-term commitment to the country’s digital transformation.
“Our job is to oversee that the commitment can be properly implemented in Indonesia,” Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid stated on Monday during the launch of the elevAIte Indonesia program, an initiative aimed at equipping young Indonesians with artificial intelligence (AI) skills.
Hafid highlighted the significance of monitoring the AI skills development program to ensure it delivers tangible benefits to the community. She emphasized that AI should not only enhance public service efficiency but also foster a healthier and safer digital ecosystem.
“We received suggestions that the people are demanding a healthy internet,” Hafid noted, underscoring the need for digital safety and ethics.
Microsoft’s Commitment to Indonesia
Andrea Della Mattea, Microsoft ASEAN President, reiterated the company’s confidence in Indonesia’s potential, citing the ambition of Indonesian organizations to innovate and contribute to national economic growth.
“By bringing our AI and cloud infrastructure to Indonesia, this is an opportunity to elevate individuals, communities, and organizations to the same global platform and standards as in other countries,” Mattea said.
Microsoft’s investment, announced by CEO Satya Nadella, includes plans to establish data centers, develop cloud infrastructure, and roll out AI initiatives. A cornerstone of this investment is the AI training program for 840,000 Indonesians, part of Microsoft’s broader mission to provide AI skills training to 2.5 million people across ASEAN by 2025.
Over the next four years, Microsoft aims to empower Indonesia’s developer community and bolster the country’s digital transformation journey. The elevAIte Indonesia program reflects the shared vision of Microsoft and the Indonesian government to harness AI’s potential for inclusive and sustainable growth.
This collaboration positions Indonesia as a regional hub for digital innovation, with transformative benefits expected to ripple across its economy and society.
