Riyadh, December 4, 2024 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need for international collaboration and robust political will to address escalating water-related challenges during his address at the “One Water Summit” on Tuesday.
In his speech, PM Shehbaz highlighted the urgency of sustainable water resource management, urging nations to unite in tackling issues of scarcity, pollution, and mismanagement. “We need international cooperation and collaboration to ensure availability and sustainable management of water for all,” he stated.
He called on the global community to prioritize knowledge sharing and expertise exchange to confront the growing crisis. Stressing the financial dimensions, the Prime Minister noted, “Adequate funding for climate-resilient infrastructure and overcoming the financing gap remains critical for climate-resilient countries.”
Advocating for Transparency and Regional Cooperation
PM Shehbaz underscored the importance of establishing transparent frameworks for data sharing and regional cooperation. “Without these frameworks, efforts to address the water crisis will face serious challenges,” he warned. He called for mechanisms that promote the equitable sharing of water resources and mitigate potential conflicts between regions.

The premier also stressed the importance of investing in skill development, research, and institutional strengthening to address water-related issues effectively at both the national and global levels.
“Last but not least, we require strong political will and global leadership to overcome the water crisis,” he concluded, emphasizing the necessity for unified global action to ensure water security amid the impacts of climate change.
