Syrian Delegation Visits Riyadh in Landmark Diplomatic Engagement

Riyadh, January 2, 2025 – The Europe Today: A high-ranking Syrian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Assad Al-Shaibani of the newly formed Syrian administration, arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday for its first official foreign visit.

The visit, at the invitation of Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, marks a significant step in fostering ties between Saudi Arabia and Syria under its new political leadership.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Eng. Waleed Al-Khuraiji, welcomed the delegation at King Khalid International Airport. The delegation included Syrian Minister of Defense Marhaf Abu Qasra and General Intelligence Chief Anas Khattab.

Commitment to Strengthening Ties

Speaking upon arrival, Foreign Minister Al-Shaibani emphasized the administration’s dedication to rebuilding a strong partnership with Saudi Arabia.
“The political administration in Syria aspires to open a new and bright chapter in its relations with Saudi Arabia,” he stated.

On his official X account, Al-Shaibani confirmed the delegation’s arrival and expressed optimism about the visit.
“I have just arrived in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, accompanied by Minister of Defense Marhaf Abu Qasra and General Intelligence Chief Anas Khattab,” he wrote.

Saudi Relief Aid Delivered to Damascus

Coinciding with the visit, the first Saudi relief aid convoy reached Damascus on Wednesday. The shipment, organized as part of Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian outreach, included food, shelter supplies, and medical aid to support the Syrian population.

Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

This visit follows recent remarks by Ahmed Al-Sharaa, head of the new Syrian administration, who highlighted Saudi Arabia’s critical role in Syria’s future.
“Saudi Arabia has a significant role to play in Syria’s future,” Al-Sharaa noted, commending recent Saudi statements as “very positive.”

The new Syrian administration, which took office following the ousting of the Assad regime by opposition forces on December 8, has positioned itself to foster international cooperation and regional stability.

A Turning Point in Relations

The arrival of the Syrian delegation signals a potential turning point in diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Syria, paving the way for enhanced collaboration and mutual support.
