Jakarta, January 13, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesia will dispatch 221,000 Hajj pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj season, according to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the governments of Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. The MoU was officially inked on Sunday, January 12, in Jeddah by Indonesian Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar and Saudi Arabia’s Hajj and Umrah Minister Tawfiq bin Fawzan AlRabiah.
Minister Umar confirmed that the agreement includes the arrangement for 221,000 prospective Hajj pilgrims, with detailed plans for their arrival and departure from Saudi Arabia. “The number of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims who will depart during the 2025 Hajj operation period is 221,000,” Umar stated in his Monday release.
According to the agreement, 110,500 pilgrims will arrive via Prince Mohammad Bin Abdul Aziz International Airport in Medina and return through King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah. The remaining 110,500 will arrive through King Abdul Aziz International Airport and return via Prince Mohammad Bin Abdul Aziz International Airport in Medina.
Minister Umar expressed optimism about the preparations for the 2025 Hajj season, emphasizing that the MoU signing would ensure timely arrangements. He also advocated for an additional quota for Indonesian Hajj officers, currently capped at 2,210, to ensure adequate support and service for the pilgrims.
The MoU also covers various security measures, with all pilgrims reminded to comply with Saudi regulations, particularly regarding movement during the Hajj rituals at Arafat, Muzdalifah, and Mina. Minister Umar reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to collaborating with Saudi Arabia to ensure the security and comfort of the pilgrims.
“In principle, the Indonesian government is ready to cooperate with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding the security and comfort of pilgrims,” he concluded.
