Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto Arrives in Malaysia for State Visit

Subang, January 27, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Malaysia on Monday for a State Visit at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

The President’s special Boeing 737-73Q (BBJ) aircraft landed at 5:50 AM at the Royal Malaysian Air Force base in Subang, where he was warmly greeted by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad. Prabowo’s delegation included several Indonesian Cabinet ministers and senior government officials.

Upon his arrival, the President was honored with a guard of honor, composed of 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion Royal Ranger Regiment (Ceremonial), under the command of Capt Muhammad Syafiq Najmi Mazlan.

According to Wisma Putra, the State Visit underscores the strong and special friendship between Malaysia and Indonesia. It is also the first State Visit by a foreign Head of State following the installation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim as King of Malaysia.

The visit will include a State Welcoming Ceremony and an audience with Sultan Ibrahim at Istana Negara. The Malaysian King will also host a State Banquet in honor of President Prabowo and his delegation.

In the afternoon, President Prabowo is scheduled to meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. The two leaders will exchange views on strengthening bilateral cooperation and discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest.

As close neighbors and founding members of ASEAN, the visit highlights the commitment of both countries to enhance bilateral ties for mutual prosperity and regional progress.

Malaysia and Indonesia share strategic relations, with extensive cooperation in politics, economy, defense, interconnectivity, education, and socio-cultural fields. In 2023, Indonesia became Malaysia’s eighth-largest trading partner globally and the third-largest within ASEAN. From January to November 2024, bilateral trade between the two countries reached RM106.06 billion (USD23.2 billion), a growth from RM101.99 billion (USD22.41 billion) during the same period in 2023.
