Prabowo and Anwar Ibrahim Reach Agreement on Bilateral Cooperation

Kuala Lumpur, January 28, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim have reached a significant agreement to address a range of bilateral issues, including labor disputes and economic cooperation. The agreement was finalized during a bilateral meeting held on Monday at the iconic Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

According to the Presidential Secretariat, both leaders emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration across various sectors. President Prabowo, speaking after the meeting, stated, “We will resolve bilateral issues. We also agree to put the labor issue in order. We have agreed to increase cooperation in all sectors.”

The discussions covered vital economic areas, including palm oil, a sector where both nations play a critical role globally. Together, Indonesia and Malaysia account for approximately 80 percent of the world’s palm oil production. “Indonesia and Malaysia are also the largest palm oil producers, (together producing) around 80 percent (of the world’s palm oil). Palm oil is an important commodity. For every country I (have) visited, they always expressed a need (for) palm oil, including nations like Egypt, India, and Pakistan,” President Prabowo remarked.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration within the palm oil industry, following their recent successful contestation at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against the European Union’s stance on palm oil-based biofuel.

Further discussions included the shared goal of supporting Palestine’s independence through a two-state solution, fostering unity within ASEAN nations, and preparations for Malaysia’s upcoming ASEAN chairmanship in 2025.

President Prabowo’s visit to Malaysia followed an invitation from the King of Malaysia, the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim. Upon his arrival, President Prabowo was honored with a formal welcoming ceremony at the State Palace Parade Field, which included the national anthems of both nations and a 21-gun salute. He was also personally received by Sultan Ibrahim and awarded the prestigious Darjah Kerabat Johor Yang Amat Dihormati I (The Most Esteemed Order of the Johor Royal I).
