Geneva, February 27, 2025 – The Europe Today: An Azerbaijani delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov, visited Geneva from February 23 to 26 to participate in the High-Level Segment of the 58th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
During the visit, Deputy Minister Mammadov delivered an address at the high-level segment of the UN Human Rights Council, highlighting Azerbaijan’s commitment to human rights, ongoing post-conflict reconstruction efforts, and regional peace initiatives.
On the sidelines of the session, Mammadov held a series of high-level bilateral meetings with key officials, including Guatemalan Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martínez Alvarado, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel, Nepalese Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, Costa Rica’s Vice-Minister of Multilateral Affairs Alejandro Solano Ortiz, and Executive Director of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) Noura bint Zaid Al-Rashoud.
The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including prospects for strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations, the current regional situation in the post-conflict period, and Azerbaijan’s ongoing reconstruction efforts in its liberated territories. Additionally, the talks focused on peace initiatives and Azerbaijan’s role as the host of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
A key aspect of the discussions involved opportunities for collaboration within the framework of COP29, with an emphasis on climate action, sustainable development, and international cooperation. The meetings also explored other issues of mutual interest aimed at fostering stronger diplomatic and economic ties.
The Azerbaijani delegation’s participation in the session underscores the country’s continued engagement in global human rights dialogues and its commitment to advancing international cooperation on pressing global issues.
