Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan Strengthen Ties as PM Adylbek Kasimalyev Visits Hanoi

Hanoi, March 6, 2025 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính on Thursday hosted a red-carpet welcome ceremony for his Kyrgyz counterpart Adylbek Kasimalyev, who is undertaking a two-day official visit to Vietnam. This marks the first visit by a Kyrgyz prime minister since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992.

The visit is expected to enhance the Vietnam–Kyrgyzstan friendship and foster more substantive and effective cooperation across various sectors. Following the official ceremony, the two prime ministers commenced their bilateral talks. Prior to the meeting, they attended a photo exhibition showcasing the landscapes, people, and positive diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan. The exhibition was jointly organized by the Government Office and the Vietnam News Agency.

In recent years, Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan have maintained strong diplomatic relations through high-level exchanges and close coordination in international organizations and multilateral forums. Despite these positive political ties, economic cooperation remains modest. Bilateral trade stood at US$7.5 million in 2023, increasing to $13.5 million in 2024. As of October 2024, Kyrgyzstan had only one investment project in Vietnam, with a registered capital of $5 million, highlighting untapped potential for expanded economic collaboration.

Prime Minister Kasimalyev’s visit represents a milestone in bilateral relations, marking a new phase of development and serving as a catalyst for deepening traditional friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation. Both nations possess significant potential for collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, transport, agriculture, culture, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

During his stay, the Kyrgyz prime minister will also meet with other high-ranking Vietnamese Party and State leaders. Discussions will focus on strengthening political-diplomatic ties, boosting economic and trade relations, and exploring new opportunities for cooperation in key sectors. Both sides are committed to elevating bilateral relations in a manner that reflects the evolving geopolitical and economic landscape.
