Indonesia Strengthens Global Tourism Promotion at ITB Berlin 2025

Berlin, March 10, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, led an international tourism promotion mission during her working visit to Berlin, Germany, from March 4 to 6, 2025. The mission was conducted through Indonesia’s active participation in the Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) Berlin 2025, the world’s largest tourism trade fair.

Besides showcasing Indonesia’s tourism potential, Minister Wardhana engaged in high-level bilateral meetings with key international counterparts. These included Gloria Guevara, Mexico’s candidate for UN Tourism Secretary-General (2026-2029); Dieter Janecek and Dr. Marion Weber from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action; and Zurab Pololikashvili, the current UN Tourism Secretary-General (2018-2025) from Georgia.

During the meetings, Wardhana outlined five key tourism programs aimed at boosting Indonesia’s global tourism appeal:

  1. Clean Tourism Movement to promote sustainable tourism practices.
  2. Tourism 5.0, integrating AI and digitalization for enhanced visitor experiences.
  3. Upgrading Tourism, focusing on gastronomy, marine, and wellness tourism.
  4. Event Organizing with Original Indonesian Intellectual Property (IP).
  5. Tourism Villages to promote authentic local experiences.

“I am optimistic that this collaboration will enhance tourism’s contribution to Indonesia’s economic growth,” Minister Wardhana stated in a press release on Sunday.

As part of her visit, Wardhana also explored Indonesian culinary businesses in Berlin. She visited “Makan Enak”, a restaurant serving authentic Indonesian dishes, and “Nua Rasa Café”, known for its selection of Indonesian specialty coffee. She discussed strategies with the café owner to further promote Indonesian coffee in Berlin.

Her visits align with the “Indonesia Spice Up The World” initiative, a government program dedicated to expanding Indonesian restaurants abroad and increasing exports of Indonesian processed foods and spices.

“I hope these restaurants and cafés become even more popular abroad. This can inspire the Indonesian diaspora to open more Indonesian restaurants, serving as cultural and tourism ambassadors worldwide,” Wardhana remarked.
