Jakarta, March 10, 2025 – The Europe Today: General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Tô Lâm and his spouse, Ngô Phương Ly, attended a concert in Jakarta to mark the 70th anniversary of Vietnam–Indonesia diplomatic relations. The event was part of his state visit to Indonesia and his official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat.
The concert was also graced by the presence of Speaker of the House of Regional Representatives of Indonesia Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin and his spouse, Rose Rudy.
In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bùi Thanh Sơn emphasized the significance of the event within the framework of the Vietnamese Party leader’s visit. He highlighted that discussions during the visit would focus on strengthening the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two nations.
Sơn expressed his satisfaction with the thriving bilateral ties, noting that political relations provide a solid foundation for expanding cooperation across various sectors. Since the establishment of the Strategic Partnership in 2013, Vietnam and Indonesia have fostered collaboration in politics, diplomacy, defense-security, economy, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. He voiced confidence that, following 70 years of development, the Vietnam-Indonesia partnership will continue to flourish, benefiting both nations and contributing to regional and global peace and prosperity.
He affirmed that both sides are committed to elevating the Strategic Partnership to new heights, in line with agreements made by their leaders. He further underscored that General Secretary Tô Lâm’s visit marks a milestone in bilateral relations, paving the way for more comprehensive and substantial cooperation.
Indonesian Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, in his remarks, highlighted the historical roots of the Vietnam-Indonesia relationship, established by President Hồ Chí Minh and President Sukarno. Over decades, leaders and citizens of both nations have nurtured these ties, turning them into a valuable and enduring asset. Since the formal establishment of diplomatic relations in 1955, Vietnam and Indonesia have stood side by side, fostering a partnership built on mutual respect and shared values within both bilateral and ASEAN multilateral frameworks.
Fadli Zon emphasized that the concert symbolized the fusion of cultures and music from both nations, with artists creating a symphony that represents hope, resilience, and unity. He noted that the event also served to inspire younger generations to uphold the spirit of friendship and cooperation that has defined Việt Nam-Indonesia relations for the past seven decades.
Recognizing the contributions of both countries to ASEAN in promoting regional stability, economic growth, and prosperity, he expressed confidence that future generations would continue to nurture and strengthen bilateral ties.
The concert featured performances by the Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra from the Vietnam National Academy of Music, presenting classical pieces alongside traditional Vietnamese musical elements. The program included folk melodies and familiar songs from both nations, offering Indonesian audiences a unique cultural experience and reinforcing the strong bond between Vietnam and Indonesia.
