President Berdimuhamedov Leads Mass Bike Ride in Honor of World Health Day

Ashgabat, April 8, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov led a large-scale cycling event on Monday to mark World Health Day, symbolically guiding a column of participants along a scenic route from the Health Path to central Ashgabat. The event was held in line with the country’s annual Health Week, which ran from April 1 to 7 and focused on promoting healthy lifestyles and environmental sustainability.

According to the official event website, the mass bike ride saw wide participation from across Turkmen society, including government officials, members of the Mejlis (Parliament), representatives of ministries and public organizations, media personnel, accredited diplomats, students from the Döwletliler Köşgi Palace, schoolchildren, university students, and professional athletes.

During the ride, President Berdimuhamedov issued key directives aimed at further advancing national initiatives related to environmental stewardship and urban development. He instructed Deputy Prime Minister Tangryguly Atahallyev to enhance monitoring and implementation of the National Forest Program, which seeks to improve ecological conditions and expand forested areas across the country.

Additionally, he tasked Deputy Prime Minister Baymyrat Annamammedov with intensifying efforts to enhance Ashgabat’s beautification and greening programs, while also creating greater access to sports and recreational opportunities for the population.

The cycling event concluded at the Ruhyýet Palace, where President Berdimuhamedov extended wishes of good health and continued success to all participants.

Similar mass bike rides were simultaneously organized in the city of Arkadag and various regions throughout Turkmenistan. The nationwide initiative formed part of a broader series of activities held during Health Week, which included thematic conferences, exhibitions, and cultural events dedicated to promoting public well-being and fostering a health-conscious society.
