Baku, May 5, 2025 – The Europe Today: A special creative night dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of renowned Azerbaijani literary figure, People’s Writer, State Prize laureate, and public intellectual Magsud Ibrahimbeyov was held on Saturday at the International Mugham Center in Baku.
Organized in accordance with a Presidential Decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on February 13, 2025, the commemorative event brought together dignitaries, cultural figures, and admirers of Ibrahimbeyov’s work. Among the high-profile attendees were Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation; Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Adil Karimli, Minister of Culture; and other senior officials and artists.
The evening commenced with a video presentation highlighting the extensive and influential creative legacy of Magsud Ibrahimbeyov, who is celebrated not only for his literary achievements but also for his significant contributions to Azerbaijani public life.
In his address, Anar, Chairman of the Union of Azerbaijani Writers and People’s Writer, paid heartfelt tribute to Ibrahimbeyov, recalling their long-standing friendship and professional camaraderie. He described Ibrahimbeyov as a writer of exceptional talent and a man of profound intellect whose wit and humor were always laced with deep meaning and societal reflection.
Polad Bulbuloglu, Chairman of the Culture Committee of the Milli Majlis and People’s Artist, also spoke of Ibrahimbeyov’s enduring sense of humor and creativity. Reflecting on their collaboration in film and theater, he emphasized the strength of Ibrahimbeyov’s artistic vision and the joy he brought to those around him.
Mikhail Gusman, First Deputy Director-General of the Russian TASS news agency, praised Ibrahimbeyov’s personality, charisma, and intellect, stating that his presence often left a greater impression than even his extensive body of work. Gusman lauded Ibrahimbeyov’s ability to observe and comment on his times with both clarity and impartiality.
Farhad Badalbayli, Rector of the Baku Academy of Music and People’s Artist, highlighted the late writer’s moral integrity, wisdom, and invaluable service to Azerbaijani culture and society.
The evening featured selected excerpts from notable films scripted by Ibrahimbeyov, underscoring his role in shaping Azerbaijani cinema. The program concluded with a performance of the mono-play Pistachio Tree, based on his work and directed by Vagif Asadov.
Anna Ibrahimbeyova, Director of the Magsud Ibrahimbeyov Creativity Center, expressed deep appreciation to the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, and the International Mugham Center for organizing the event with such care and respect.
The creative night not only honored the literary legacy of Magsud Ibrahimbeyov but also reaffirmed his lasting impact on Azerbaijani arts, culture, and national identity.
