Jakarta, May 15, 2025 – The Europe Today: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf has called on Muslim nations to break their silence and take a unified stand against the atrocities committed by the Israeli regime in Gaza, stating that indifference in the face of such crimes is an “unforgivable sin.”
Speaking at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University in Jakarta on Thursday, Qalibaf emphasized that supporting the Palestinian people, particularly those suffering in Gaza, is both a religious duty and a humanitarian imperative for all Muslims. His remarks came during his official visit to Indonesia to attend the 19th Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC).
“From the perspective of Islamic thought, confronting arrogance is both a religious obligation and a humanitarian necessity,” Qalibaf said, explaining that while manifestations of oppression may evolve over time, the obligation to resist tyranny remains constant.
Highlighting the ongoing suffering in Gaza, Qalibaf stated, “These humanitarian tragedies pain the hearts of every freedom-seeking individual and challenge the conscience of humanity. The brutal aggression and escalating crisis require a strong, unified condemnation from the global Muslim community.”
He added, “Silence in the face of these crimes signifies complicity with the oppressors and a disregard for human and Islamic values. This silence is beneath the dignity of any Islamic country.”
Criticizing the role of external powers, Qalibaf pointed to the United States’ unwavering support for Israel as a key enabler of the violence. “This support not only violates international law and humanitarian norms but also emboldens the aggressors to continue their crimes,” he said.
Drawing historical parallels, Qalibaf praised Indonesia’s struggle against colonialism as an example for today’s Islamic world. “Just as Indonesia strengthened its national unity in the fight against colonialism, the Islamic world must unite in solidarity with Palestine today. In Islamic thought, silence in the face of oppression is a betrayal — a betrayal of the Quran, of history, and of humanity.”
Qalibaf’s address underscored the centrality of the Palestinian cause to the Islamic world and reflected Iran’s continued emphasis on political solidarity among Muslim nations in the face of regional and global challenges.
