Indonesia Wins Two Gold Medals at 26th Asian Physics Olympiad in South Korea

Jakarta, May 26, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Indonesian Physics Olympiad team secured two gold medals at the 26th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO), held in Busan, South Korea, from May 17 to 25, placing Indonesia fifth overall in Asia, according to an official statement received in Jakarta on Monday.

The Indonesian team also achieved three bronze medals and three honorable mentions at the prestigious regional competition.

The gold medals were won by Ackhava Adam Malonda of SMA Wardaya Jakarta and Evan Syatia To of SMAK Penabur Gading Serpong, Tangerang.

The bronze medals went to Gusti Komang Abhika Atmaja of SMA Kesatuan Bangsa Yogyakarta, Juan Richie of SMA Kristen Immanuel Pontianak, and Bagasmora Andreo Sibarani of SMA Darma Yudha Pekanbaru.

Three students received honorable mentions: Ferrel Gabriel of SMAK 1 Penabur Jakarta, Arrow Dunatos Pascha Kristian of SMAN Unggulan MH Thamrin Jakarta, and Kayser Huang of SMA Darma Yudha Pekanbaru.

In the overall ranking, Indonesia placed behind South Korea, China, Taiwan, and Russia, while outperforming several participating countries, including Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, India, Vietnam, Australia, and Israel.

The 26th APhO was organized by the Korean Physical Society and brought together 28 teams and 208 participants from across Asia and guest countries.

The Indonesian delegation was led by Herry Kwee, Zainul Abidin, and Jong Anly Tan. The selection and training process was conducted by the Sinergi Mencerdaskan Tunas Negeri Foundation through three open and free selection stages.

The team is scheduled to return to Jakarta on May 26, 2026, at 12:40 a.m. WIB on flight VN635.
