Bangkok, August 31, 2024, The Europe Today: The Thai new cabinet line-up is anticipated to be submitted for royal endorsement this weekend, following the recent alliance between the former opposition Democrat Party and the ruling Pheu Thai Party. This coalition will provide the new government with the backing of 322 MPs in parliament, ensuring a strong majority.
Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai announced on Friday that Pheu Thai is currently in the final stages of verifying the eligibility and backgrounds of the cabinet candidates before submitting the approved list for royal endorsement. This process is crucial to ensuring that each selected minister is a suitable fit for their respective role.
“Pheu Thai is trying to ensure each cabinet minister is a good fit,” stated Mr. Phumtham, who assumed the role of acting prime minister after Srettha Thavisin was dismissed by the Constitutional Court.
He confirmed that the cabinet line-up is nearly finalized and emphasized that, once it receives royal endorsement, the new government will promptly begin its work to address the nation’s challenges.
Mr. Phumtham had previously indicated that the new cabinet list would likely be completed by the end of the week, marking the final step before the official commencement of the new administration’s duties. The swift formation and endorsement of the cabinet are seen as critical to maintaining political stability and advancing the government’s legislative and policy agenda.
