Bali and Australian Consulate General Urge Foreign Tourists to Respect Local Regulations

Denpasar, March 14 – The Europe Today: The Bali provincial government, in collaboration with the Australian Consulate General, is actively encouraging foreign tourists, including Australians, to adhere to local regulations and respect Bali’s unique culture.

“I am pleased to know that the Australian Consulate General in Bali is supportive of our efforts to encourage respectful tourist behavior,” said Tjokorda Bagus Pemayun, head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, on Thursday.

As Bali remains a top destination for Australian tourists, Pemayun urged all foreign visitors to respect the island’s culture, laws, and natural environment. The Bali government has issued official guidelines outlining the “dos and don’ts” for foreign tourists.

Australian Consul General Jo Stevens has endorsed these guidelines, emphasizing their importance for a safe and enjoyable visit.

“I encourage all Australians to respect Bali’s unique culture and follow the dos and don’ts for a safe and enjoyable visit,” she stated.

In 2024, Bali welcomed 1.5 million Australian tourists, with only a few requiring consular assistance, indicating that the majority had a trouble-free experience.

“This shows that the vast majority of Australians enjoy a pleasant, safe, and trouble-free holiday in Bali, which supports the local culture and economy, a trend we want to see continue,” Stevens added.

To further promote responsible tourism, the Australian Consulate General is working closely with the Bali government through social media campaigns and updated travel advice on Smartraveller, Australia’s official travel advisory service.

Smartraveller also reminds Australian tourists that violating local culture, laws, and regulations can lead to criminal penalties or deportation.

According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in Bali, foreign tourist arrivals in 2024 reached 6.33 million, marking a 20.1 percent increase from 5.27 million in 2023. Australia topped the list with 1.5 million visitors, followed by India (550,379) and South Korea (294,024).
