Ashgabat, June 1, 2025 – The Europe Today: His Excellency Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani, Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, held a meeting with His Excellency Mr. Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, to discuss avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, Chairman Gillani expressed sincere appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the Turkmen side and reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality, a principle recognized and respected at the international level.
The two sides engaged in comprehensive discussions on strengthening political, trade, and commercial relations. Chairman Gillani underscored the need to enhance bilateral trade and highlighted the importance of regional connectivity as a cornerstone for shared prosperity. He emphasized the potential of strategic infrastructure projects such as the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line, and fiber optic linkages, as vital instruments to bolster economic integration.
In this context, Chairman Gillani encouraged Turkmenistan to make greater use of Pakistan’s ports in Gwadar and Karachi to facilitate regional and international trade. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further deepening cooperation in connectivity and logistics, thereby contributing to broader regional development.
Foreign Minister Meredov welcomed these views and proposed practical steps to advance shared strategic objectives. He suggested the import of high-quality Pakistani marble for construction projects in Turkmenistan and emphasized the value of increasing the frequency of high-level bilateral visits to solidify the partnership between the two countries.
The meeting reaffirmed the mutual commitment of Pakistan and Turkmenistan to advance their long-standing friendship through focused cooperation across multiple sectors, laying the foundation for sustainable growth and regional harmony.
