Turkmenistan, Tajikistan Hold Political Consultations to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Ashgabat, August 21, 2026 — The Europe Today: Political consultations at the level of the foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on August 20, with the two sides discussing a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda.

The consultations focused particularly on further improving mechanisms for political and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.

The sides welcomed the effective partnership between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan within the framework of the United Nations. They noted that Tajikistan has co-sponsored more than 30 resolutions adopted at the initiative of Turkmenistan.

Considerable attention was devoted to strengthening trade and economic cooperation. The participants noted the steady growth in bilateral trade and discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in energy, transport and communications, agriculture, trade and investment.

The sides highlighted the significance of the 14th meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Tajik Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation and the second meeting of the Turkmen-Tajik Business Council, both held in Dushanbe this year. The meetings were described as evidence of the growing momentum of constructive bilateral partnership.

The consultations also placed significant emphasis on cultural and humanitarian cooperation. In this regard, the two sides discussed joint events planned for implementation in the near future.

At the conclusion of the consultations, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan reaffirmed their readiness to maintain constructive dialogue and further strengthen friendly relations based on mutual respect and shared interest in expanding bilateral cooperation.
