Turkmenistan and South Korea Strengthen Cooperation in Caspian Shipbuilding Sector

Balkan, October 16, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan continues to advance the modernization of its Caspian maritime infrastructure, integrating cutting-edge international technologies to enhance its shipbuilding and repair capabilities.

As part of these efforts, Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Korea Kim Jun-chul visited the Balkan Shipbuilding and Repair Yard on October 14 to review the progress of a joint Turkmen-Korean project involving the construction of two multipurpose cargo vessels (MPCs), each with a deadweight of 6,100 tons. The project is being implemented in partnership with the South Korean company Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd. (KSIT).

During the visit, Kim Jun-chul met with Guychmyrat Amanov, General Director of the Balkan Shipyard, to discuss prospects for expanding cooperation between Turkmenistan and South Korea in the shipbuilding and ship repair industries.

The discussions underscored Ashgabat’s commitment to leveraging global expertise and modern technology to strengthen its domestic shipbuilding sector. The modernization of the Caspian maritime fleet and infrastructure is a strategic priority for Turkmenistan, aimed at consolidating the country’s role as a key transit and logistics hub in the Caspian region.

The Korean diplomat expressed appreciation for the professionalism and dedication of KSIT employees working at the Turkmen enterprise, commending the successful implementation of joint projects that contribute to the long-term development of bilateral industrial cooperation.
