EBRD Reports Record Year for Moroccan Contracts, Focuses on Private Sector and Renewable Energy

EBRD

Rabat, December 16, 2025 – The Europe Today: Greg Guyett, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s (EBRD) First Vice-President, has announced a record year for new contract signings with Morocco in 2025, with agreements totaling approximately $1 billion.

Speaking to the Moroccan news agency MAP, Guyett attributed this success to the strong partnership between the EBRD, the Moroccan government, and private sector clients, encompassing both large corporations and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

“This positive momentum results from the close collaboration established with the Moroccan government, as well as with private sector clients,” Guyett said, highlighting the bank’s commitment to supporting the growth of private businesses in the North African kingdom.

He also highlighted several programs run in partnership with local banks aimed at facilitating easier market access for Moroccan SMEs. In addition, these programs include educational initiatives designed to empower youth and women, reflecting the EBRD’s broader social and economic objectives in Morocco.

The bank’s activities in Morocco extend across multiple sectors, including energy, industrial development, and water management. Renewable energy remains a central focus of the EBRD’s strategy, particularly in enhancing the electricity grid and supporting Morocco’s ambition to meet 52% of its electricity needs from renewable sources by 2030. Currently, renewable energy accounts for over 45% of Morocco’s electricity production and grid supply.

Guyett emphasized that the EBRD will continue to leverage its investments to advance both ongoing and future projects in priority sectors, contributing to sustainable development and economic growth in Morocco.
