Turkmen President Appoints New Head of State Frontier Service at Security Council Meeting

Ashgabat, January 22, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and General Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Wednesday chaired an off-site expanded meeting of the State Security Council in Ashgabat, during which he signed a decree appointing a new head of the State Frontier Service of Turkmenistan, according to the country’s official media.

Under the decree, Colonel Ilamanov Ilaman Myratgulyyevich was appointed Chief of the State Frontier Service of Turkmenistan and Commander of the Border Troops. He was relieved of his previous duties as Deputy Chief of the State Frontier Service and Chief of the General Staff.

At the same time, Major General Nuryyev Yazgeldi Bashimovich was relieved of his post as Chief of the State Frontier Service of Turkmenistan and Commander of the Border Troops in connection with his transfer to another position.

During the meeting, President Berdimuhamedov also approved decisions on awarding state honors to military personnel and law enforcement officers, conferring military and special ranks, and assigning qualification classes. The corresponding decrees were signed in recognition of their personal contributions to strengthening Turkmenistan’s independence and sovereignty, ensuring public order and security, and in connection with Defender of the Fatherland Day, which is observed annually on January 27.

Addressing the meeting, President Berdimuhamedov said that in line with Turkmenistan’s defensive military doctrine, program measures are being consistently implemented to maintain a high level of military security and territorial integrity of the neutral state, strengthen its defense capabilities, and further improve the social and living conditions of service members and their families. The meeting also reviewed the performance of the country’s military and law enforcement agencies in 2025 and outlined priority tasks for the current year.
