Second Round of Russia-Ukraine-US Peace Talks Set for February 1 in Abu Dhabi

Moscow, January 29, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Kremlin has announced that a second round of peace talks involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States is scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, on February 1.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday that the negotiations are tentatively planned for February 1, noting that preparations are currently under way. He stressed that the talks involve highly sensitive and complex issues and should be conducted behind closed doors.

“These negotiations are on a very sensitive topic. They are very complex negotiations, and discussing any specific segments publicly during the talks is detrimental to the process,” Peskov said, adding that there are currently no discussions about any list of documents being negotiated.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an evening address earlier this week that preliminary discussions are ongoing regarding a follow-up meeting between delegations, indicating that talks are expected to resume on February 1.

On the same day, Peskov said the next round of US-mediated discussions was planned for the following week in Abu Dhabi, without specifying an exact date at the time.

Russia, Ukraine and the United States previously held two days of consultations in Abu Dhabi on January 23–24. Both Kyiv and Washington described those talks as “constructive,” while Peskov said contacts had begun in a constructive manner but acknowledged that “significant work” still lies ahead.

Last week, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, who participated in the Abu Dhabi talks, said at an event in Davos, Switzerland, that substantial progress had been made in the Russia-Ukraine peace negotiations, adding that discussions had narrowed down to one remaining key issue.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said in an interview published on Tuesday that President Zelenskyy is prepared to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin to address what he described as the most sensitive issues in a proposed 20-point peace plan. According to Sybiha, these issues include territorial questions and the operation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, as efforts continue to end the nearly four-year conflict.
