Astana, March 12, 2026 – The Europe Today: A cold anticyclone that has gripped northern regions of Kazakhstan is expected to weaken, paving the way for a gradual warming trend across the country, according to the Kazhydromet National Weather Service.
Although spring has officially begun, winter conditions have persisted in many parts of the country. Residents in the northern and eastern regions have experienced particularly harsh weather, where a cold anticyclone following recent snowfall and blizzards caused a significant drop in temperatures.
However, meteorologists say the seasonal transition is now gaining momentum. Starting March 12, temperatures across Kazakhstan are forecast to gradually rise as warmer air masses move into the region.
While northern areas are expected to see temperatures climb slightly above the freezing point, southern regions are likely to experience a more noticeable spring-like warming. By March 14, temperatures in the south are projected to reach +5°C to +10°C (41°F to 50°F).
The forecast signals the beginning of a broader seasonal shift as Kazakhstan moves from prolonged winter conditions toward milder spring weather.
