Ashgabat, May 1, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan and the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cultural cooperation during a high-level meeting held in Ashgabat on April 30.
The talks took place between Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov and TURKSOY Secretary-General Sultan Raev, focusing on key aspects of bilateral collaboration, including the implementation of the Joint Work Plan for 2026.
During the meeting, Meredov highlighted the importance of Raev’s visit to Ashgabat, particularly his participation in the Opera Days of TURKSOY and commemorative events marking the 110th anniversary of renowned Turkmen composer Veli Mukhadov. He also praised TURKSOY’s active role in promoting Turkmen cultural heritage on the international stage.
Both sides underscored the significance of TURKSOY awards conferred upon Turkmen cultural figures for their contributions to the development of arts and culture across the Turkic world.
The discussions emphasized that sustained cultural and humanitarian cooperation serves as a vital instrument for strengthening peace, mutual understanding and dialogue not only among TURKSOY member states but also with the broader international community.
The two sides also reviewed preparations for upcoming joint cultural events and exchanged views on enhancing the effectiveness of TURKSOY’s activities.
Sultan Raev expressed appreciation to the Turkmen government for the invitation to participate in major cultural celebrations scheduled in the country this year, including festivities marking the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their readiness to further expand cooperation and continue joint initiatives aimed at promoting shared cultural values and strengthening ties within the Turkic world.
