London, May 4, 2026 – The Europe Today: European Union and United Kingdom leaders on Monday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, aiming to deliver tangible benefits for businesses and consumers while reinforcing Europe’s collective security.
The discussions took place on the sidelines of the European Political Community Summit held in Armenia, where Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
According to an official statement, both sides emphasized the importance of advancing practical cooperation between Brussels and London in response to ongoing geopolitical and economic challenges. The talks focused on enhancing economic resilience, supporting business growth, and ensuring stability across the continent.
Officials also highlighted the strategic importance of EU-UK alignment in addressing shared security concerns, particularly in light of the Russia-Ukraine War and broader regional instability.
The meeting underscored a shared interest in developing a more structured and forward-looking partnership ahead of the upcoming EU-UK summit, where further areas of cooperation are expected to be explored.
Separately, Prime Minister Starmer also held talks with Antonio Costa, head of the European Council.
In a statement shared via the social media platform X, Costa said: “From Ukraine to the Middle East and Iran, the EU and the UK will continue working side-by-side. The upcoming EU-UK Summit will be an important moment to deliver on our commitments and further strengthen our bilateral relation.”
