Azerbaijan, Türkiye Hold Strategic Talks on WMD Protection Cooperation

Azerbaijan

Baku, May 6, 2026 – The Europe Today:  Representatives from Azerbaijan and Türkiye convened in Baku for a high-level meeting focused on strengthening capabilities in protection against weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and monitoring global developments in this critical domain, the Ministry of Defense said.

Addressing the meeting, Lieutenant General Azer Aliyev expressed satisfaction at hosting the Turkish delegation, highlighting that bilateral relations—rooted in братherhood and friendship—have seen rapid advancement in the military sphere and have reached the level of a strategic partnership.

Participants emphasized that regular mutual visits play a vital role in ensuring continuous analysis of activities related to radiological, chemical, and biological defense. Such engagements, they noted, help align both countries’ capabilities with evolving global and regional trends while maintaining the operational readiness of their armed forces at the highest standards.

During the discussions, both sides reviewed the current status of ongoing cooperation in military and military-technical sectors, alongside other areas of shared interest. The meeting concluded with a comprehensive exchange of views, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to deepen collaboration in defense and security.
