Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Visits Consulate General in St. Petersburg During Russia Trip

St. Petersburg, May 24, 2026 – The Europe Today: Sahiba Gafarova visited Azerbaijan’s Consulate General in St. Petersburg as part of her working visit to the Russian Federation.

According to the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation visited the bust of Heydar Aliyev, the founder of modern independent Azerbaijan, located in the administrative building of the consulate. Members of the delegation laid flowers in tribute to the National Leader.

During the visit, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova also met with consulate staff and presented books dedicated to the life and political legacy of Heydar Aliyev to the diplomatic mission.

Later, the consulate hosted a formal reception marking Independence Day of Azerbaijan.

Speakers at the event highlighted the historic significance of Independence Day in Azerbaijan’s statehood history, as well as the country’s development and achievements since gaining independence.

The participants also emphasized the leadership of Ilham Aliyev, describing him as the successor to Heydar Aliyev’s political course and noting Azerbaijan’s continued progress and development under his leadership.
