Stockholm, June 27, 2026 – The Europe Today: Swedish authorities have authorized a protective wolf hunt in Svenljunga Municipality following a series of livestock attacks that have occurred since May 10, according to local reports.
The decision was made by the Västra Götaland County Administrative Board after a calf was injured on Friday in what officials believe was the latest attack carried out by a wolf.
“We will appoint a hunting leader who will contact local hunters in the area who will participate in the operation,” said Mia Bisther, predator officer at the Västra Götaland County Administrative Board.
The authorized hunt is intended to prevent further attacks on livestock and address growing concerns among local farmers following repeated incidents in the region.
In addition to the attacks in Svenljunga Municipality, authorities have also recorded wolf attacks in Trollhättan, Tidaholm, and Tidan, outside Skövde, highlighting an increase in predator-related incidents across parts of western Sweden.
The County Administrative Board said the protective hunting measure is aimed at reducing the immediate threat posed by the wolf while balancing wildlife management and public safety considerations.
