Norway Reach FIFA World Cup Quarter-finals for First Time with Victory over Brazil

Norway

New York, July 6, 2026 – The Europe Today: Norway advanced to the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup for the first time in their history after defeating Brazil in the Round of 16, powered by a brace from Erling Haaland and an outstanding goalkeeping performance by Orjan Nyland.

The match, played in New York New Jersey, marked the venue’s penultimate fixture of the tournament ahead of the FIFA World Cup final scheduled for July 19.

Haaland scored twice to secure Norway’s historic victory, taking his tournament tally to seven goals. The strikes moved the Norwegian forward level with Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi in the race for the tournament’s adidas Golden Boot award.

Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland also played a decisive role, producing a series of crucial saves to deny Brazil and preserve Norway’s advantage throughout the knockout encounter.

With the victory, Norway moved within two matches of reaching the World Cup final and will face either Mexico or England in the quarter-finals in Miami on July 11.

Norway, coached by Stale Solbakken, will be seeking to continue its impressive run as it pursues a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.
