Rabat, July 28, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Moroccan Aerospace Industries Group (GIMAS) has appointed Mohammed Bellatig as its new president, marking the return of one of the association’s founding members to lead Morocco’s rapidly expanding aerospace industry. His appointment took effect on July 8, 2026, according to an official statement issued by GIMAS.
Bellatig, an aircraft engineer and graduate of the National Higher School of Aeronautics and Space (ISAE-SUPAERO) in Toulouse, France, has built a distinguished career in the aviation sector. He spent decades at Royal Air Maroc (RAM), where he specialized in aircraft maintenance and played a key role in the airline’s industrial development and strategic expansion.
During his tenure at RAM, Bellatig contributed to the establishment of several major joint ventures and subsidiaries, including SAESM for engine maintenance, MATIS in partnership with Boeing and Safran for aircraft wiring, Aerotechnic Industries (ATI) with Air France-KLM for heavy aircraft maintenance, and Satys SP Maroc, specializing in aircraft painting and component services. He currently serves as Director General and Chief Executive Officer of Satys SP Maroc and has previously chaired the boards of SAESM and ATI.
GIMAS highlighted Bellatig’s longstanding association with the organization, noting that he served as its first president following the association’s establishment in September 2006 and played a pivotal role in laying the foundations of Morocco’s aerospace ecosystem alongside the sector’s pioneering companies.
Beyond his executive leadership, Bellatig has also contributed to the aerospace industry through publications in several specialized international magazines, reflecting his extensive expertise in aviation maintenance and industrial development.
GIMAS represents Morocco’s aerospace manufacturing industry and works to promote the growth and international competitiveness of the country’s aerospace ecosystem, which has emerged as one of Morocco’s leading industrial sectors over the past two decades. According to official data, the sector comprised nearly 150 companies by the end of 2024, generated approximately US$2.6 billion in exports, employed around 17,000 people, and recorded export growth of nearly 15 percent compared to the previous year.
The sector is expected to continue its strong growth trajectory as Royal Air Maroc expands its fleet and international network in preparation for Morocco’s long-term tourism and economic objectives, while the National Airports Authority advances its Airports 2030 modernization strategy to enhance aviation infrastructure across the Kingdom.
