Warsaw, March 30, 2024, The Europe Today: A distinguished delegation from the National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam, led by Vice Chairman Trần Quang Phương, concluded a productive working visit to Poland from March 27-30. The visit followed their participation in the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-148) in Switzerland, showcasing Vietnam’s commitment to fostering international cooperation and strengthening diplomatic ties.
During the visit, Vice Chairman Phương engaged in bilateral talks and meetings with key Polish officials, including Deputy Marshal of the Sejm (lower house) Krzysztof Bosak, Deputy Senate Marshal Michał Kamiński, and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski.
In his addresses, Vice Chairman Phương underscored the positive trajectory of political and diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Poland, emphasizing the robust economic and trade cooperation between the two nations. He highlighted Vietnam’s status as Poland’s largest trade partner in Southeast Asia and Poland’s significance as Vietnam’s priority partner in Central Eastern Europe.
Affirming Vietnam’s steadfast commitment to nurturing the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Poland, Vice Chairman Phương proposed concrete measures to deepen bilateral engagement. These measures included enhancing high-level delegations, fostering parliamentary exchanges, and bolstering collaboration in supervising and implementing cooperation agreements across various sectors.
Furthermore, Vice Chairman Phương urged Poland to expedite the ratification of the European Union – Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and advocated for the removal of the EC’s “yellow card” warning against Vietnamese seafood. He also proposed exploring opportunities to resume flights between Poland and Vietnam to stimulate bilateral trade and tourism.
The Polish parliamentary leaders welcomed the delegation exchanges, recognizing their role in strengthening traditional friendship and collaboration. They expressed appreciation for the contributions of the Vietnamese community in Poland, highlighting its significance in fostering people-to-people ties.
In discussions with Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski, Vice Chairman Phương emphasized the potential for cooperation in science and innovation. He expressed Vietnam’s readiness to expand collaboration in science, technology, and research, facilitating knowledge exchange and technological advancement.
The visit also included engagements with the Poland-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group, the Poland-Vietnam Friendship Association, and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Poland, comprising approximately 35,000 residents. These interactions further solidified the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Poland, paving the way for enhanced collaboration across various sectors in the future.
