Jakarta, October 19, 2024 – The Europe Today: President-elect Prabowo Subianto will be sworn into office this Sunday after securing a landslide victory in the 2024 Presidential Election. Among his key priorities post-inauguration is the introduction of a comprehensive free medical check-up program, aimed at improving public health and fostering the development of high-quality human resources in line with his vision for a “Golden Indonesia 2045.”
The program, initially focused on individuals over 50 and those at risk of tuberculosis (TB), has been expanded to cover 52 million people across Indonesia. Hasbi Hasan, head of the Presidential Communications Office, announced the details of the initiative in a video released by BPJS Kesehatan on September 25, 2024. “The government will push for widespread medical check-ups,” Hasan stated.
The new government will prioritize enhancing hospital infrastructure and improving health services in 2025 to support the initiative, including the preparation of nearly 30 new hospitals and increasing the capacity of Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) nationwide.
The program will include screenings for hypertension, blood sugar, uric acid, and other potential catastrophic diseases, alongside health ministry efforts under the previous administration. These preventive measures are intended to promote a healthy lifestyle and reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases, which are on the rise.
With an estimated budget of Rp3.2 trillion, funded through the State Budget (APBN), the medical check-ups will be conducted once or twice a year. “This will ensure that Indonesians can monitor their health regularly and take preventive actions before any serious illnesses arise,” Hasan added.
The free medical check-up program is a critical component of Prabowo’s broader mission to build a healthy, prosperous society, integral to his “Moving Forward Together Toward Golden Indonesia 2045” vision. Alongside other initiatives, such as accelerating tuberculosis eradication, hospital construction, and a Free Nutritious Meals Program, the Prabowo administration aims to create a strong foundation for future generations by prioritizing human resource development.
By addressing key health issues, the government seeks to realize its ambitious goal of making Indonesia a prosperous and vibrant nation by 2045, with healthy and high-quality human resources at its core.
