Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali Arrives in Malaysia for Two-Day Official Visit

Sepang, October 25, 2024 – The Europe Today: Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali arrived in Malaysia this morning for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. This marks Dr. Abiy’s first visit to Malaysia.

Accompanied by First Lady Zinash Tayachew Bere and a delegation, Prime Minister Abiy landed at Kompleks Bunga Raya, Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 8:30 am. He was warmly welcomed by Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, and Foreign Ministry Chief of Protocol Datuk Yubazlan Yusof.

Following his arrival, Dr. Abiy inspected a guard of honor consisting of 28 officers from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (Ceremonial), led by Capt. Nur Ahmad Zaim Zahari.

According to Wisma Putra, Prime Minister Abiy will meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in an official ceremony, followed by bilateral discussions focused on enhancing trade, investment, agriculture, commodities, the halal industry, sustainable development, health, tourism, and education. They are also expected to address shared regional and international concerns, concluding with a joint press conference.

Malaysia and Ethiopia enjoy positive trade relations, with Ethiopia ranking as Malaysia’s 26th largest trading partner in Africa last year. Trade reached RM446.8 million, with Malaysian exports amounting to RM358.6 million, a 24.6% increase from the previous year. Key Malaysian exports include electrical and electronic products, palm oil, chemical products, textiles, and footwear.
