Abu Dhabi, January 11, 2025 – The Europe Today: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will embark on a working visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from January 12 to 14, focusing on advancing sustainable development and reinforcing bilateral ties.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Prime Minister’s participation in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) follows an invitation from UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also the Ruler of Dubai.
During the ADSW, Prime Minister Anwar will attend the Opening Ceremony and the Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards alongside leaders from Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. He will also join the plenary dialogue titled “ASEAN’s Interconnected Future: Linking Energy, Trade & Prosperity,” where he will share Malaysia’s experiences and perspectives on advancing sustainable energy.
As part of his visit, Prime Minister Anwar will hold audiences with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in key sectors, including renewable energy, food and energy security, artificial intelligence, and data centers. Regional and global issues of shared concern will also be addressed.
In a significant development, Prime Minister Anwar is scheduled to witness the signing of the Malaysia-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) on the sidelines of the ADSW. This agreement is expected to open new avenues for trade, investment, and economic collaboration between the two nations.
As ASEAN Chair for 2025, the Prime Minister will emphasize the importance of regional cooperation, particularly in fostering sustainable development and promoting green innovation across Southeast Asia.
Accompanying the Prime Minister on this visit are Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir.
Following the UAE visit, Prime Minister Anwar will depart for London on January 14 to continue official engagements, aiming to enhance Malaysia’s global standing and strengthen strategic international partnerships.
From January to November 2024, Malaysia-UAE trade reached RM39.53 billion, with the UAE being Malaysia’s second-largest trading partner in the Middle East and fourth among ASEAN member states.
