Uzbekistan and Georgia Strengthen Agricultural Cooperation Ahead of Intergovernmental Commission Session

Tashkent, February 8, 2025 – The Europe Today: Deputy Minister of Agriculture Kakhramon Yuldashev recently held a meeting with David Kotaria, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Georgia in Uzbekistan, and Irakli Kandelaki, Senior Counsellor of the Georgian Embassy, to explore opportunities for further strengthening cooperation in the agricultural sector between the two countries.

The discussions focused on the development of mutually beneficial initiatives, with both sides exploring the potential for joint projects. A proposal was made to establish a working group dedicated to advancing various agricultural fields, including the development of new grape varieties, the cultivation and export of table and technical grapes, as well as improving livestock farming practices and identifying domestic animal breeds. Additionally, the improvement of qualifications for specialists in the agricultural sector was emphasized.

Special attention was given to fostering academic exchanges, with plans to facilitate collaboration between professors and students from universities and research institutes. The parties also discussed joint efforts toward sustainable agricultural systems, conservation of natural resources, and addressing climate change’s impact on crop production.

The meeting concluded with a focus on the upcoming session of the intergovernmental commission, which will take place during the visit of the Georgian Prime Minister to Uzbekistan, scheduled for February 20-22.
