Ankara, March 23, 2025 – The Europe Today: Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó reaffirmed Türkiye’s status as an ally, friend, and strategic partner, emphasizing the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations. His remarks came during an interview with Anadolu on Friday, as he visited Türkiye’s capital, Ankara, to discuss key diplomatic and economic issues.
Szijjártó highlighted the strategic nature of Türkiye-Hungary ties, particularly in times of critical geopolitical shifts. He expressed gratitude for Türkiye’s reliable role as a transit partner in ensuring Hungary’s energy security, stating that Hungary’s energy stability would be unattainable without Türkiye’s cooperation.
The Hungarian foreign minister also noted that bilateral trade reached a record high in 2024, bringing the two nations closer to achieving their $6 billion annual trade target. He underscored the importance of economic collaboration in strengthening diplomatic relations.
Regarding global security, Szijjártó emphasized that both Türkiye and Hungary have actively advocated for peace between Russia and Ukraine. “For the last three years, we have been arguing in favor of a ceasefire and the initiation of peace talks,” he said. He highlighted that both nations could take pride in maintaining a common-sense-based foreign policy strategy founded on mutual respect and realism.
The visit also marked a continuation of cultural and scientific cooperation between the two countries. Szijjártó noted that 2024 was designated as the Türkiye-Hungary Cultural Year, serving as a platform to celebrate shared heritage and cultural ties. He further stated that the Türkiye-Hungary Science and Innovation Year, currently being celebrated, aims to expand collaboration into modern industries.
Additionally, the Hungarian minister acknowledged ongoing joint efforts in the energy sector and expressed satisfaction with the deepening partnership. As Türkiye and Hungary continue to achieve their annual diplomatic and economic goals, Szijjártó reiterated Hungary’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations with Türkiye.
