Tehran, April 15, 2025 — The Europe Today: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei announced late Monday that the next round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States will take place in Muscat, Oman on April 19, following earlier consultations between the two sides.
Responding to media inquiries, Baqaei confirmed that Muscat had been chosen as the venue for the follow-up talks. The announcement comes after a preliminary round of discussions was held in the Omani capital on April 12, during which Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi facilitated communication between the Iranian and American delegations by shuttling between them.
Both Tehran and Washington described the initial engagement as constructive, agreeing to continue their dialogue the following week.
Conflicting Reports on Venue
The confirmation by Iran’s Foreign Ministry follows conflicting reports about the location of the upcoming round. Earlier, Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi had briefed lawmakers that the next phase might be held in Europe, though Oman would continue to serve as a mediator.
Adding to the confusion, Reuters reported that Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani had stated Rome would host the second round of U.S.-Iran talks, citing Italy’s ANSA news agency.
However, Baqaei’s latest remarks appear to clarify Iran’s position, reaffirming Muscat as the agreed venue and highlighting Oman’s continued role in facilitating backchannel diplomacy between Tehran and Washington.
The indirect talks come amid ongoing tensions and efforts to ease long-standing disputes, particularly around Iran’s nuclear program, regional security concerns, and humanitarian issues.
