Tashkent, June 20, 2025 – The Europe Today: Oliver Stolpe, the Regional Representative for Afghanistan, Central Asia, Iran, and Pakistan of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), paid an official visit to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting with the Chairperson of the Senate, Tanzila Narbayeva, Stolpe commended the wide-ranging reforms being implemented under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, emphasizing the progressive nature of Uzbekistan’s transformation across various sectors.
The UNODC Regional Representative affirmed the organization’s full support for Uzbekistan’s reform agenda and expressed readiness to provide all necessary external assistance. Discussions during the meeting focused on the country’s commitment to combating corruption and human trafficking, areas where significant progress has been made as part of national public policy.
Both parties underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation in these areas, with the UNODC pledging to further assist in aligning Uzbekistan’s national mechanisms with international standards. The role of the Parliament in enacting and enforcing legislation to combat corruption and trafficking was highlighted as a key element in establishing a robust and globally recognized legal framework.
Stolpe noted that Uzbekistan’s achievements in the prevention of human trafficking and forced labor, the identification and prosecution of criminal offenders, and the protection of migrant workers’ rights have positively influenced the country’s international reputation and improved its standing in global indexes.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to intensify cooperation through the integration of modern information technologies in crime prevention strategies. Furthermore, the two sides committed to developing a new collaborative roadmap for the 2026–2030 period, with a particular focus on addressing increased labor migration and other emerging priorities.
