Astana, May 30, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa in Astana on Friday to discuss prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation in a range of strategic sectors, including artificial intelligence, healthcare, trade, and digital technologies.
During the meeting, President Tokayev thanked the Cuban vice president for participating in the Eurasian Economic Forum and emphasized the importance Kazakhstan attaches to Cuba’s engagement with the work of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
The Kazakh leader highlighted the relevance of the forum’s agenda, particularly discussions on the development of artificial intelligence, and pointed to significant opportunities for expanding cooperation between the two countries in this rapidly evolving field.
President Tokayev briefed his guest on Kazakhstan’s efforts to introduce artificial intelligence technologies and accelerate the digitalization of key sectors of the national economy. He also expressed Kazakhstan’s readiness to share its experience in developing e-government systems and to provide access to advanced Kazakh digital solutions.
For his part, Vice President Valdés Mesa conveyed greetings from Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and reaffirmed Cuba’s interest in strengthening trade and economic relations with Kazakhstan.
The two sides also explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in medicine and pharmaceuticals, identifying these sectors as promising areas for mutually beneficial partnership.
In addition, discussions focused on enhancing business contacts, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people ties as part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on current regional and international developments, underscoring the shared interest of both countries in maintaining constructive dialogue and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
