Garabagh

Solothurn, June 8, 2026 – The Europe Today: A monument dedicated to the Garabagh horse, one of Azerbaijan’s most renowned national symbols, was unveiled in the Swiss city of Solothurn during a ceremony organized by the Azerbaijan-Turkish Cultural Center with the support of the Azerbaijan Equestrian Federation and the Azerbaijani Embassy in Switzerland.

Speaking at the event, Cevdet Aras expressed gratitude to the donors who contributed to the project, noting that the monument holds significant cultural value for Azerbaijanis living in Switzerland. He also highlighted that the cultural center, established in 1992, has consistently benefited from the support of the Azerbaijani state.

Addressing the ceremony, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Fuad Isgandarov, emphasized the cultural and symbolic importance of the Garabagh horse as a reflection of Azerbaijan’s history, heritage, and national identity.

He noted that initiatives of this kind play an important role in preserving national values abroad, promoting Azerbaijani culture, strengthening unity within the diaspora, and fostering stronger ties between younger generations and their homeland.

The ambassador further stated that since the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War, also referred to in Azerbaijan as the Patriotic War, the Garabagh horse has come to symbolize the country’s victory and resilience. He thanked all individuals and organizations that supported the realization of the project.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Switzerland, local residents and community leaders from Solothurn, as well as staff members of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Switzerland. The event highlighted the role of cultural initiatives in promoting Azerbaijani heritage and strengthening community ties abroad.
