Morocco Edge Scotland 1-0 in FIFA World Cup Clash to Strengthen Knockout Hopes

Morocco

Baku, June 20, 2026 – The Europe Today: Morocco secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Scotland on Friday in their Group C encounter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, held at Boston Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, strengthening their position in the race for a place in the knockout stage, according to Anadolu Agency.

Ismael Saibari made an immediate impact, scoring the fastest goal of the tournament just two minutes into the match. He finished clinically after being set up by Brahim Diaz, giving Morocco an early advantage and setting the tone for a competitive encounter.

Morocco maintained control for significant periods of the game and created multiple opportunities to extend their lead. However, Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn delivered a series of key saves to keep his side in contention, including a notable stop to deny Chemsdine Talbi in the closing stages.

Scotland pushed forward in search of an equaliser in the final minutes. Substitute Lyndon Dykes missed a clear chance with a header that went wide, while Scott McTominay narrowly missed the target as his effort struck the side netting.

The match also saw disciplinary action, with Morocco’s Issa Diop and Scotland’s Andrew Robertson both receiving yellow cards.

With the result, Morocco move to four points from two matches following their opening draw against Brazil, placing them in a strong position in Group C. Scotland remain on three points after suffering their first defeat of the tournament.

The outcome leaves the group finely poised as both teams continue their bid for qualification to the knockout rounds.
