Dushanbe, July 17, 2026 – The Europe Today: Tajikistan welcomed 889,400 foreign tourists during the first six months of 2026, representing a 16.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Committee for Tourism Development.
Preliminary data released by the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan showed that a total of 1.063 million foreign nationals entered the country during the reporting period. Of these, 806,900 visitors arrived from Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, while 82,500 came from other foreign nations.
The tourism sector continues to expand under the country’s Tourism Development Strategy until 2030, adopted in 2018, with government efforts focused on strengthening tourism infrastructure, enhancing services and creating new opportunities to attract international visitors.
According to the committee, Tajikistan’s tourism infrastructure has continued to grow steadily. As of the first half of 2026, the country had 216 hotels, 53 hostels and motels, 57 sanatoriums, four children’s resorts, six medical and wellness centres, eight holiday homes, and five tourist bases serving domestic and international travellers.
The State Register of Tourism Service Providers currently includes 191 travel companies operating nationwide. Of these, 93 are based in Dushanbe, 42 in the Sughd Region, 31 in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, 15 in the Khatlon Region, and 10 in the districts under the central government.
Officials said the continued increase in tourist arrivals reflects the effectiveness of Tajikistan’s long-term strategy to develop the tourism sector, improve visitor infrastructure and promote the country’s natural landscapes, cultural heritage and adventure tourism to international markets.
